With Viral Loops, when you are running a referral campaign, you have 2 available page options:

  1. Referrer Page: how referrers interact with your campaign

  2. Invitee Page: how people accept invites

You can find those 2 options as "STEPS" in the campaign Wizard:

We will try with this article to simplify those 2 options a little...

Referrer Page

Referrer participation

With this page, you will set up how referrers will interact with your campaign.

Choose how people join your referral campaign:

Automatically Option: this requires that you are using the API, Zapier or Webhooks, etc.

Manually Option: this requires the using of a joining form. Either Viral Loops form or your own custom form.

Referrer dashboard location

From here, you can choose where the referrer dashboard is hosted. The referrer dashboard is where referrers access their referral links and monitor their progress. You can even host it on Viral Loops pages or on your own website.

Referrer dashboard elements

The interactive elements that show people their referral link and let them track their progress.

From here, you can set up, edit and customize all the available elements you are seeing below:

Invitee Page

Viral Loops Page or Your Website

What kind of page do people go to after clicking the referral link? Referred friends are associated with their referrers here.

Dedicated landing page - Viral Loops Pages
Referred friends go to a page designed to welcome referred friends

Existing website page with form - Your website
Referred friends got to your homepage, signup page, or any other website page.

Invitee dashboard

You can customize here the Invitee Widget, that your visitors will see.

Sharing experience

Configure how the sharing link looks like and its Open Graph settings:

Differences between the Referrer & Invitee Page

The Referrer page targets the existing user who is already part of the campaign and is being encouraged to invite others. The purpose is to motivate the current user (referrer) to share a referral link, invite friends, or promote the campaign to earn rewards or incentives.

The Invitee page is for new users who have been invited by an existing participant (referrer). Its purpose is to convert invitees into participants by encouraging them to sign up or take a desired action through the referral link. You can also show a "Thank You Page or message" after someone participates in Invitee page.

Invitee Page

New users (invitees)

Purpose

Encourage sharing/inviting

Convert invitees into participants

Content Focus

Example Message

"Share your link and earn rewards!"

"John invited you! Get 10% off if you join!"

These pages work together to create a viral loop where current users are incentivized to bring in new users, and new users are motivated to join through shared benefits.

You can always run a more straightforward referral campaign without using the Invitee page at all!
