Set up conditional rewards based on conversion value

Reward people who bring you customers based on each referred customer's conversion value. With conditional rewards, you can define value ranges and assign a referrer reward to each range. A conversion can unlock one or more rewards, depending on the ranges you configure.

For example, a referral program could offer a 10% discount when a referred customer's conversion value is in a lower range and a larger discount for a higher value range. You choose the rewards and ranges that fit your economics.

Before you begin

  • Use a Universal or Refer a Friend campaign.

  • Set the campaign goal to track conversions and enable Value Tracking. The conversion event must include a numeric value for the ranges to apply.

  • Decide how you will confirm the conversion and deliver each reward. For purchases or other valuable actions, we recommend sending conversions from your backend or a supported secure integration and enabling Allow only authorized conversions.

Configure conditional rewards

  1. Open the campaign builder for your Universal or Refer a Friend campaign.

  2. In Goals, configure conversion tracking and turn on Value Tracking. Choose the currency and save the settings.

  3. In the campaign's rewards setup, turn on Conditional rewards.

  4. Enter a name for the referrer reward and set its Min and Max conversion values.

  5. Select Add Conditional Reward to create further rewards and value ranges. Save the campaign when you are done.

The reward setup lets you create multiple rows, each with its own reward and value range. The product explains that each conversion may unlock one or more rewards depending on the ranges you define. Check the ranges and the reward names carefully before launching.

How it works

  1. A participant shares their referral link and a friend joins through it.

  2. The referred friend completes the campaign's conversion action, such as a purchase or paid upgrade.

  3. Viral Loops records the conversion value and evaluates the configured conditional reward ranges.

  4. The referrer becomes eligible for the reward or rewards associated with that conversion value. Fulfillment follows the reward method configured for the campaign.

For example, a campaign could configure 10% off for one value range and 25% off for a higher range. Those are example reward labels; they do not mean Viral Loops automatically creates discount codes or applies a percentage of the purchase. Set up the corresponding reward fulfillment separately.

Test before launch

Use a test referrer and a referred participant to check a conversion value in each range. Confirm the expected reward appears in your campaign's reward management flow and that your fulfillment integration, if any, delivers the intended item. Also test a value outside your configured ranges.
