Referral Link Sharing Options: Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Email & More

Facebook, Twitter, Messenger, Email, WhatsApp, Reddit, Telegram

Written by Fivos Stergiannis

Making it easy for customers to share is one of the most important parts of a successful referral program.

With Viral Loops, every campaign participant gets a unique referral link and can share it with friends, colleagues, or their audience across multiple channels.

Depending on your campaign setup, participants can share their referral link through social networks, messaging apps, email, or simply copy the link and share it anywhere they want.

How can participants share their referral link?

Viral Loops provides several ways for participants to invite others to your referral campaign.

Your participants can share their unique referral link using options such as:

  • Facebook

  • X (Twitter)

  • LinkedIn

  • WhatsApp

  • Messenger

  • Reddit

  • Email

  • Telegram

  • Copy referral link

They can also copy their personal referral URL and share it through virtually any other channel, including SMS, community platforms, private messages, newsletters, or other social networks.

This makes it easy for your customers to promote your referral program through the channels they already use.

Every participant gets a unique referral link

When someone joins your Viral Loops campaign, Viral Loops can generate a unique referral link for that participant.

For example:

https://yourwebsite.com/?referralCode=abc123

The participant shares this link with their network.

When someone follows the referral link and completes the required action in your campaign, Viral Loops can attribute that referral back to the original participant.

This allows you to track who referred whom and reward participants based on the rules of your referral program.

Social media sharing

Participants can share their referral links directly through the sharing options available in your campaign.

This makes it easier for customers to promote your referral campaign on social networks without manually copying and pasting their referral link every time.

You can also configure how your referral links appear when shared on social media using your campaign's sharing appearance and Open Graph settings.

For example, you can control elements such as the image, title, and description users see when your campaign is shared.

Sharing referral links through WhatsApp and messaging apps

Referral links can also be shared through messaging apps such as WhatsApp and Messenger.

This is especially useful for referral programs because participants can send their personal referral link directly to friends, family, customers, or colleagues instead of posting it publicly.

Participants can also use the Copy Link option and paste their referral URL into any messaging application they prefer.

Email referral sharing

Participants can also invite their contacts by email.

When using the email sharing option, clicking the button opens the participant's email application so they can send their referral invitation.

Note: This option relies on an email application being configured on the participant's device. If no compatible email client is available, the email application may not open.

Sharing referral links on mobile

Viral Loops also supports referral sharing from mobile devices.

When participants interact with their referral link on a supported mobile device, they can use the device's native sharing menu to share their referral link through compatible apps installed on their phone.

Depending on the device, this can include:

  • WhatsApp

  • Messages / SMS

  • Email

  • Social media apps

  • Other messaging applications

This means participants aren't limited only to the sharing buttons displayed in your Viral Loops campaign.

Can participants simply copy their referral link?

Yes.

Participants can copy their unique referral URL and share it anywhere they want.

For example, they could paste their referral link into:

  • A private message

  • A Slack or community conversation

  • An SMS

  • A social media post

  • An email or newsletter

  • A blog or website

  • Any other platform that accepts links

The key is that the participant's unique referral information remains in the URL so Viral Loops can identify the referrer.

Can I customize the referral sharing experience?

Yes.

Depending on your Viral Loops campaign template, you can customize different parts of the sharing experience, including the Sharing Options Widget and how referral links appear when they are shared.

For example, the Universal template includes a Sharing Options Widget that customers can use to share their unique referral link.

You can also configure where referral links direct invited users and customize the experience they see after following an invitation. Viral Loops uses the referral link to associate the new participant with the person who invited them.

Why offer multiple referral sharing options?

Different customers prefer different channels.

Some may prefer sending a referral through WhatsApp, while others may share on LinkedIn, Facebook, email, or a private message.

Providing multiple ways to share reduces friction and makes it easier for participants to invite people through the channel that feels most natural to them.

The goal is simple:

Make sharing your referral link as easy as possible.

The easier the sharing experience is, the easier it is for participants to promote your referral campaign.

Viral Loops campaign analytics can report sharing and referral activity by channels such as email, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, and copied links.
